With a view towards Knole in the Somerset Levels you'll find The Lime Kiln pub and restaurant that changed ownership before Christmas. So, we thought we'd give it another visit.
We were warmly welcomed by South African owner Jason and staff, Freya and Kate.
The menu reflects Jason's origins with S. African curries but also includes other traditional dishes like fish & chips and pies.
Portion sizes were ample and good quality ingredients were used. I particularly liked Mrs Ball's accompliment with my tender beef curry. I realised that it was going to be different from Indian, Thai etc curries, and I appreciated it's sweetness, but I would have liked a little more spicy intensity. However, that's just me and does not detract from an excellent dish.
The popular fish & chips received paise by all, however, one of our party found the Chicken Piri Piri to be slightly dry.
When including drinks, the Malbec and G&Ts flowed, the average bill, without desserts, worked out to be reasonable. (£££ out of £££££ per head)
Under the leadership of Jason, he and his team worked efficiently while promoting a pleasant social pub/restaurant atmosphere. They are still developing their product and already have created themed events to increase interest and trade. I have no doubt that the popularity of this venue will continue to grow. Therefore, I have no hesitation in recommending you try The Lime Kiln for yourself
Twithay?
Yes, I agree with all that you have written.
Mushy peas would have been good with the fish and chips, rather than garden peas! And from a previous visit, the pie was excellent!
Jason is making a big effort to re-establish the Lime Kiln as a pub to visit on a regular basis!
